Stradbally Woodland Railway

Nostalgic rail travel in the heart of Ireland's vintage capital of Stradbally, Co. Laois

The Stradbally Woodland Railway was the first volunteer-run heritage railway in Ireland, having been established in 1969. We've been running regular steam services every Bank Holiday weekend and selected other running days during the year ever since.

Our next running days are Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th of September for our first ever Ogham Tree arts festival. Tickets are available online via for both days. Check out the event page for the festival over on Facebook.

Note: services for the remainder of the year will be hauled by resident diesel loco "Rusty" to facilitate the 10-yearly overhaul of our steam loco, No. 2.

In the meantime, keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter pages for the latest updates.

Our Railway is located within the grounds of Stradbally Hall, Co.Laois (home of Electric Picnic) on the N80 Carlow/Portlaoise road and just a few minutes from Junction 16 Portlaoise on the M7 Motorway from Dublin and the South.
